Cardinals Upend Saints to Stay Perfect, 3-0

by: Mike Garth   9/18/2011

The Bishop Ireton Cardinals, hosting the Saints of St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes on Saturday, scored on their first possession of the game and never trailed the rest of the way, defeating the Saints 42-14. The Cardinals no-huddle offense, combined with a very balanced attack, set the tempo of the game and kept the Saints defense in check play-to-play.  Junior quarterback P.J. Zingler threw for nearly 240 yards, completing 16 of 22 passes while the running game produced 200 yards, with senior Moses Webb and junior Brandon Williams-Price both putting up 90 yard days.

While the Saints were clearly game enough, they were simply outmatched up front, on both sides of the ball.  Of special note, however, is junior running back Darius Manora.  He is the workhorse of the Saints offense and is one of those exciting players that whenever they touch the ball, it could be six.

The Cardinals, who travel to Episcopal next Saturday, move to 3-0 while the Saints drop to 0-2. The Saints will visit Potomac School next weekend.
